Honoring Exceptional Filipinos With Disabilities

The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) honored six outstanding Filipinos with disabilities. The celebration took place on December 10, 2024. This event observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The awards ceremony took place at a Quezon City hotel. It recognized individuals across various fields. These individuals were honored for their resilience and contributions to society.

Among the awardees were Paralympian swimmer Ernie Gawilan (Sports); Christian Apolinario (Private Sector); Jennifer Garcia (Government Sector); Ma. Bless Adriano (Youth); Carmen Zubiaga (Women); and John Darnell Castro (Person with Disability Leader). Each recipient received PHP 25,000 in recognition of their exceptional work.

NCDA Executive Director Glenda D. Relova, OIC-Deputy Executive Director Dandy C. Victa, and DSWD Undersecretary Atty. Emmeline Aglipay Villar led the ceremony, with Angela Lagunzad Castro serving as Master of Ceremonies. The NCDA expressed gratitude to collaborating national government agencies, organizations, NGOs, and the PNP for their support.

The event highlighted the NCDA’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating the resilience and excellence of Filipinos with disabilities. Their inspiring stories underscore the importance of creating a more inclusive and empowered society for all. The NCDA encourages continued celebration and recognition of the invaluable contributions of persons with disabilities.
