The Department of Tourism (DOT) will lead the charge in promoting sustainable ecotourism in the Philippines. This initiative will take place over the next five years. The National Ecotourism Summit (NES) 2024 took place on 16 December at the Conrad Hotel Manila. During the summit, the DOT approved the National Ecotourism Strategy and Action Plan (NESAP) for 2024. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) also approved it. They officially adopted it.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco received a symbolic token from DENR Undersecretary Ernesto Adobo Jr. during the ceremony, signifying the collaborative effort between the two agencies. The NESAP prioritizes the preservation of the Philippines’ unique natural ecosystems while fostering responsible tourism growth.

The summit was organized by the DOT’s Office of Public Affairs and Advocacy (OPAA). It brought together key stakeholders. They worked to solidify the plan’s implementation. The NESAP 2024-2028 outlines a comprehensive strategy for developing ecotourism initiatives that balance economic benefits with environmental protection. This includes community engagement, sustainable infrastructure development, and robust environmental safeguards. The DOT leads by emphasizing the government’s commitment. They ensure tourism contributes positively to the country’s biodiversity. The focus is also on the well-being of local communities. The plan aims to position the Philippines as a premier destination for responsible and sustainable ecotourism in the region.
