The Philippine Educational Theater Association presents a new play. The production is titled “Gen G: GG na ‘to!”. It is part of Project GG: Game Changers for Good Governance. The project is a youth-centered campaign. It transforms civic education into lived experiences. It shows young people that every voice matters. Every act of participation helps shape accountable communities. It also strengthens democratic systems. PETA created the play with Move to Change Foundation, Inc.. The organization is also called M2C. M2C creates opportunities for young people to lead positive change.
The play is an interactive theater experience much like the books “Choose Your Own Adventure.” Audiences do not just sit back and watch. They participate directly. They make choices. They help shape the whole experience.
The story is set in an alternate Philippines. Flood waters submerge the country. The plot follows young people in temporary communities. These places are called “Balangay Gen Zones”. The youth are adaptable and flexible. They have high chances of survival. They must stay safe in the Balangay. Adults leave to seek solutions elsewhere.
The supposed return date arrives. The adults are nowhere to be found. The young people are left to fend for themselves. They must figure out how to run their Balangay. The audience gets a say in the story. Viewers participate through votes, choices, and negotiations. They handle unexpected consequences. Audiences become part of the community. They help determine what happens next.
The story unfolds and asks several questions. Who gets heard? Who gets left behind? What do we prioritize? Survival is not just about making the “right” choice. The system young people inherit might stop working. Do they simply adapt? Do they dare to change it?
The world of the Balangay invites young people to see participation differently. Participation extends beyond elections. Agency goes beyond choosing given options. The play encourages youth to question, imagine, and act together.
Co-playwright and PETA Artistic Director J-mee Katanyag started with a simple question. The question was “G?” Katanyag shared her thoughts on choices. “Every time we say yes to something, we are also making a choice,” Katanyag said. “And whether we realize it or not, our choices reveal what we value, whom we care about, and what kind of community we are helping create.”
Project GG asks similar questions based on the phrase “G?” The campaign asks: “G ka ba makilahok? G ka ba makinig? G ka ba magtanong? G ka ba makibahagi sa pagbabago?”
Director Ian Segarra leads the creative team. Segarra directed “Walang Aray”. J-mee Katanyag and Jhudiel Sosa wrote the play. Katanyag wrote “Nobody is Home”. Sosa wrote “Identité”. Kabaitan Bautista handles musical direction. Julio Garcia designs sets and props. Johnnie Moran designs costumes.
The cast features emerging and established performers. Lyle Viray plays New Character. Johnrick Noynay plays Dex. James Lanante plays Sid. Camille Fabian plays Chloe. Francheska Andaya plays Achi. Cb Lagapa plays Achi and Chloe. Ada Tayao and Zoe Damag play Joker.
“Gen G: GG na ‘To!” opened at the PETA Theater Center on September 17, 2026. The show tours 12 schools from September to December 2026.
Project GG is a six-month campaign. PETA continues campaign efforts until 2028. The campaign offers workshops and community conversations. These activities encourage critical thinking and collaboration.
PETA Lingap Sining runs the “Control + Shift: Changing Narratives” project. Partners include Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Misereor. The project includes the Control + Shift Live! Narrative Change StudioLab. It also includes an Educational Series, Workshops, and Fora.
PETA ARTSZone works on a three-year project. The project is titled “ARTSZone: Reclaiming Democratic Spaces for Children through Global Citizenship Education.” Terre des Hommes Germany and Dachser support the project. The initiative focuses on research, module development, and community arts initiatives.
