Breast Cancer Awareness Month is in October. In its second year, The Isha Project: ISHAir Your Hair continues to give hope to breast cancer patients. A rising child singer, just like Leah Salonga, donated her hair to the project.
October became a National Breast Cancer Awareness (NBCA) Month in 1985. It started with the partnership of the American Cancer Society and Imperial Chemical Industries’ pharmaceutical division. This division is now part of AstraZeneca, one of the largest producers of anti-breast cancer drugs.

The ISHAir Your Hair project started last year at Rizal Medical Center (RMC) on October 15, 2025. Ambassador Dana Kursh cut a volunteer’s hair to initiate this project. Now, it is the Ambassador’s turn to donate her hair at RMC’s entrance lobby. The Ambassador highlighted the fight against breast cancer with ABC: Awareness, Bravery, and Compassion. Where explains that early detection is important, courage needs support, and Filipino compassion.
Before the ceremonial hair cutting happened, an unexpected donor came. A talented child singer, Brillian Star, and her Mom came to donate their hair. In her birth month, the rising child singer wanted to give back. She donated her hair donation is a kind gesture. Then she sang a song as a gift to the cancer patients. The talent show came after the ceremonial hair cutting.

Brillian Star’s talent is already making rounds online. Social media is amazed by her brilliant singing talent. Star sang at the Repertory Philippines contest before turning seven. Beating Leah Salonga, a year younger. Salonga started in Repertory Philippines at age seven in 1978.
This Isha Project is run through the ISHA Women’s Wellness Center. A collaboration project of RMC between Emphasis Salon, Makati Medical Center Foundation, and the Embassy of Israel via Mashav. MMC Foundation ran a similar project in 2021. The project’s name is Hair for Hope Philippines. This project is named after “Isha,” the Hebrew word for woman.
The ISHA Women’s Wellness Center sits inside RMC. A one stop facility for free maternal and reproductive health services for Filipino women. The Embassy of Israel, together with the Department of Health (DOH), RMC, and MMC Foundation, launched the facility in March 2026.
