The newly opened Tandang Sora Women’s Museum at the Tandang Sora National Shrine is celebrating Mother’s Day with a special art exhibit. “Our Mother, Our Gift” opened on May 6th and runs until May 30th, 2025. The exhibit features the work of 21 artists from across Metro Manila and two provinces.

Curator Riza R. Zuñiga describes the exhibit as a collective story. It’s a tribute to mothers, celebrating their unwavering love and dedication. The exhibit explores the multifaceted roles of mothers. It highlights their strength, nurturing nature, and enduring love.

The exhibit’s focal point is an abstract piece by Lorna Quejong Israel. It sets the stage for exploring the diverse roles of motherhood. Sharon Rafols’ artwork depicts a mother’s strength. Lea Lim’s piece focuses on a mother’s care.

Four artists—Thea Mujares, Gloria de Guia, Melanie Libatique, and Peachy Gonzalez Fernando—focus on the mother-child bond. Their works depict childhood memories, the desire for closeness, and the unwavering support mothers provide. Even amidst stress, their love shines through.

The influence of mothers on their children’s dreams and aspirations is also explored. Thea Mujares, Thisbe Larla Danae, and Amary Joy Naval contribute works reflecting this theme. The artists explore how mothers’ stories shape their children’s paths.

The enduring power of a mother’s love is a key theme. Esther S. Garcia, Raj Busmente, and Thisbe Larla Danae’s artwork beautifully portrays this enduring connection. The exhibit shows how this love extends to friends and family.

The comforting presence of mothers is also highlighted. Yasmin Mangila Ponce’s crochet artwork, Carmela Geisert’s photographs, and Riza Zuñiga’s technologically enhanced images, all capture the simple yet powerful act of being close to one’s mother.

The exhibit also explores the spiritual and emotional aspects of motherhood. Eunice Logro and Joy Dasco’s works show the power of a mother’s vision and faith. Maria Fatima Arcilla’s painting of Our Mother of Perpetual Help represents the unwavering prayers of mothers. Doris G. Rodriguez and Lehwa Mago Gold’s paintings further illustrate the profound bond between mother and child.

Different expressions of a mother’s love are explored through Esther S. Garcia and Guia Anne Salumbides’ artworks, highlighting the calming embrace that only a mother can provide.

The “Our Mother, Our Gift” exhibit is a heartfelt tribute to mothers everywhere. It’s a moving exploration of the bond between mothers and their children. Don’t miss this special Mother’s Day celebration at the Tandang Sora Women’s Museum.
