A New Political Alliance for the 2025 Election

The Philippines is preparing for the 2025 election, much like the US and UK. There will be new political alliances formed and a lineup for half of the Senate, Congress, and local government officials. Philippine President Ferdinand “BongBong” R. Marcos Jr. is leading a new alliance for the Federal Party of the Philippines. This party is also known as “Partido Federal ng Pilipinas” (PFP). The alliance is for the 2025 election.

Dr. John Ortiz Teope of PFP spoke at the Agenda Forum. He stated that this new alliance aims to unify the Philippines. It signifies a change as the country moves ahead for its future growth.

Attorney Fred Mison asked the two other guests for their thoughts on this political alliance. Professor Chester Cabalza is the President and Founder of the International Development and Security Cooperation. He commented that voters should make smart choices. Leody de Guzman is a socialist labor rights activist. He expressed his dismay over politicians. They create policies that do not favor the majority of Filipinos.

The discussion highlighted the changes in the political system since the 1970s. During this period, corruption took over and hindered the Philippines’ progress. According to the Corruption Perceptions Index, the Philippines scored 34 in 2023, ranking 115th out of 180 countries.

China has taken advantage of this corruption, making sovereign regions vulnerable to takeovers, like the West Philippine Sea. The Agenda Forum discussed that this issue began after China’s economic rise. This led the US to shift its focus from the Middle East to Southeast Asia.

Filipinos will be eagerly awaiting the Philippine President’s State of the Nation Address on 22 July 2024. The speech will also draw attention to the 2025 Philippine election and the upcoming US election.
