Activists Refused on the 40th Year of People Power

Groups of activists marched to the People Power Monument on its 40th Anniversary. The police form a barricade to stop them from reaching the monument. The open road of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) leads them to where they are supposed to be.

The march was intended to convey a message about the Philippines’ current situation as a nation. The People Power Day is the right day for them to voice this concern. A day for freedom, truth, and justice.

Would the crowd stand their ground as they march on EDSA? A situation they’d face to show that they care for this nation. If they fail, then they believe the corrupt system has won.

The Barricade

A crowd of activists has already built up at the corner of Connecticut and EDSA past 1:00 PM. These were the group of activists who were not granted a permit on People Power Day. It’s been 40 years since Filipinos overthrew the Marcos dictatorship on February 25. The father of President Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr. who is the current Philippine President.

A police barricade was formed as the crowd grew. The activists carrying their placards and banners were stopped. The activists were pinned down, blocking traffic on EDSA.

Tension grew between the law enforcers and protesters. The police are pushing the crowd to the outer lanes. It gave an opening to the EDSA traffic.

However, activists refused to move from their space. Then objects were thrown at officers. There was a show of strength as they pushed the police out of the way. Arrests were made as soon as they identified the suspects who threw at the officers. Trained policemen detain the suspects safely.

Pinned Down

The police pushed the crowd to open up a lane. EDSA traffic flowed as soon as a lane was opened. Then the activists burst forward. The police barricade guided the activists to the EDSA intersection into the two outer lanes.

Soon the EDSA intersection was full of activists. There were activists coming from other exits to join in. Police tried to contain them at that intersection.

It was at this moment they activists realized they were pinned down at that intersection. They tried to find a way around the police barricade. It prevented the group from marching forward to the People Power Monument. The police forced them to stay where they were.

While the activists failed to get to where they wanted to be. They did not fail to express the nation’s need. It also shows how the government refuses to accept the real situation of this country.
