The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is taking tax education to TikTok. It recently held talks with the popular video platform to launch a digital partnership. The goal is to improve tax awareness across the country.
The meeting happened on January 13, 2026. It took place at the BIR National Office. BIR Commissioner Charlie R. Mendoza led the discussion. He was joined by key bureau officials. They met with Atty. Yves Gonzalez, TikTok’s Head of Public Policy in the Philippines. TikTok team members also attended.
The planned collaboration focuses on making tax info easy to understand. TikTok will help share short, engaging videos about taxes. These will include content made by creators. The materials will be shared during Tax Awareness Month.
The BIR will hold workshops with TikTok. These will be both online and in person. Topics will include tax registration and taxable income. They will also cover filing, payments, and common compliance issues.
Commissioner Mendoza stressed the need to use digital platforms. “Information dissemination in digital platforms is no longer optional,” he said. “It is necessary.” He added that the BIR must reach younger taxpayers. “We must go where the new generation of taxpayers is.”
The initiative supports the 2026 National Tax Campaign. It aligns with the President’s push for simpler government services. It also follows the Finance Secretary’s call to boost tax collection. At the same time, it aims to help taxpayers.
Atty. Yves Gonzalez said TikTok is proud to support civic education. “We are committed to empowering Filipinos,” he said. “We want to help them stay informed.” He added that the content will be accessible, relatable, and engaging.
Both the BIR and TikTok will name team leads soon. They will set a timeline for the rollout. This includes launching the official BIR TikTok account. The launch is expected in the coming weeks.
This partnership marks a shift in tax education. It brings government messaging to where people already spend time — on social media.
