Filipina Heroes Honored: 10 Women in Uniform Receive Outstanding Law Enforcement and National Security (OWLENS) Award

In QUEZON CITY, Philippines, ten Filipina heroes were recognized. They were from the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Philippine Army (PA), and the Philippine Air Force (PAF). They also included representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). They received this recognition because they provided exemplary service. This was acknowledged in the 2024 Outstanding Women in Law Enforcement and National Security (OWLENS) Award. This marks the third occasion the Republic Defenders have honored these exceptional women. They collaborated with San Miguel Corporation and received sponsorship from Robinsons Land Corporation.

The awardees are:

3. Lt. Col. Cynthia Forteza-Guinto, PAF

4. 1Lt. Lei Vanette D. Alangui, PAF

5. Col. Ann Marie T. Gerodiaz, PAF

6. Col. Rosa Ma. Cristina Rosete-Manual GSC (ART), PA

7. PSSg. Aidalyn Bustamante Barrido, PhD.

8. Maj. Aileen S. Zara, PAF

9. 1Lt. Cielo Rose U. Dolorican, PA

10. CSupt. Alma Abacahin, BFP

During the pre-awarding ceremony, 1Lt. Alangui of the PAF provided a straightforward perspective on being a woman in uniform. “We are soldiers first and women second,” she said. “We are here to serve and protect the country first.”

The awardees will be formally recognized during a ceremony on 21 March 2024, at the Quezon City Sports Club. Their dedication to serving and protecting the Philippines is a true inspiration to all.

A recognition celebrates the invaluable contributions of Filipino women in safeguarding the Philippines. It serves as an inspiration for aspiring women in uniform.
