Filipinos are sitting all day. Alarming data shows 46% of adults are physically inactive. Shockingly, 75% of adolescents lead sedentary lives. The Philippine Heart Association (PHA) encourages more movement. It hosted a vibrant World Heart Day 2025 fair on October 26. The event, “Galaw-Galaw, Pilipinas!”, took place at Quezon City’s Barangay Bagong Pag-Asa Hall. This landmark location is behind SM North EDSA. This fair kicks off the PHA’s 25th year leading World Heart Day in the Philippines.

The free health and wellness event packed action under one roof. Attendees got crucial risk screenings. They checked cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure. Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements were also offered. Expert consultations provided personalized advice. Hands-only CPR demonstrations taught life-saving skills. Energetic Zumba sessions got hearts pumping. Celebrity fitness coaches Jim and Toni Saret led special “Galaw-Galaw” movement routines. Nutrition counseling and wellness lectures empowered families.
Dr. Richard Henry Tiongcco II and Dr. Iris Garcia emphasized that big changes start small. They called Barangay Bagong Pag-Asa the spark for community-driven heart health. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the world’s top killer. Yet, up to 80% of heart disease and stroke cases are preventable. Obesity levels in the Philippines are now critical. Roughly 38% of Filipino adults had a high BMI in early 2025.
The fair celebrated student creativity too. Winners of the “Don’t Miss a Beat” Jingle Reels Contest were announced. Young people created powerful short videos promoting heart health. Health leaders joined PHA President Dr. Walid Amil. They included Quezon City Health Officer Dr. Ramona Asuncion and Philippine Heart Center Director Dr. Avenilo “Jun” Aventura Jr. Their presence highlighted strong public-private partnerships for healthier lifestyles.

World Heart Day’s urgent message is clear: Move more. Burning calories improves heart health. Connecting with professionals and loved ones matters. The PHA’s “Galaw-Galaw, Pilipinas!” fair made this message tangible. It offered fun, free steps towards prevention. Filipinos, get moving! Don’t miss this beat for a healthier future.
