Give the Gift of Hair, Share the Hope

Donate your hair this October through the ISHAir Your Hair project. A project that officially launched today for breast cancer patients. It celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness this month.

This beautiful cause was held at the Rizal Medical Center (RMC) in Pasig City. It involves the Makati Medical Center Foundation (MMCF) and the Embassy of Israel in the Philippines, in collaboration with Emphasis Salon. A collaboration for the ISHA Project’s “ISHAir Your Hair” mentioned earlier.

The ISHA Project is a partnership between the Israeli and Philippine governments launched in March 2022. The hair donation gives a story of hope for chemotherapy cancer patients. The therapy can cause severe hair loss. Each hair donation will be turned into wigs.

The Emphasis Salon will help cut the hair from this hair donation drive. The salon will convert this hair into natural wigs. The RMC cancer patients will receive these natural hair wigs.

These are the requirements for hair donation:
• Minimum of 12 inches long
• Natural curls and waves accepted
• Chemically treated, rebonded, or colored hair is not qualified
• Tie your ponytail and seal it in a resealable plastic bag
• Include your name, contact number, and email address

Key persons were invited to the official launch of the hair donation drive on 29 October. The new Ambassador of the Embassy of Israel in the Philippines, Dana Kursh, came to launch. The RMC Chief Dr. Maria Rica M. Lumague, MMCF Executive Director Mary Margaret Barro, and Operations Manager of Emphasis Salon Mylene Cantos join the Israeli Ambassador at the RMC lobby. The RMC cancer patients are among the audience and some hair donors.

The Israeli Amb. Kursh led the ceremonial cutting of the hair. Gladys Baniqued’s long hair was cut in front of patients. Camile Manibug is another hair donor present at the ceremony.

In an interview, Israeli Amb. Kursh said, “God willing, in the next couple of weeks. We’ll be able to launch a women’s center. A medical center, Isha Medical Center in the heart of Rizal (RMC) Hospital. To be able to heal and provide care and compassion to women. Who needs that help and to help them heal.”

MMCF Exec. Dir. Barro added, “We celebrate all of the women, especially here in the Philippines, who need all of the support in terms of their health requirements. We look forward to inaugurating, opening with the Israel Embassy what we call the Isha Women’s Wellness Center here at the heart of Rizal Medical Center.”

Since 2012, the MMCF has partnered with the Embassy of Israel. Both are open to sharing their technology and knowledge with their RMC partner. Also mentioned that a new method to freeze cancer cells. A technology they hope would reach the Philippines.
