Glowing Traditions: Manila Celebrates Early Chinese Lantern Festival

Rizal Park in Manila is lit up with vibrant colors. The city celebrated the Chinese Lantern Festival on February 18th. This coincided with the 430th anniversary of the world’s oldest Chinatown. This event is traditionally held after the Lunar New Year. City Administrator Bernie Ang emphasized the significance of marking this occasion early: “It’s a celebration of our rich cultural heritage.” It’s also a chance to strengthen the bond between the Philippines and China.

The festive atmosphere increased with the presence of His Excellency Huang Xilian. He is the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Philippines. Ambassador Huang toured the Chinese Park, immersing himself in the dazzling displays of lanterns and enjoying the captivating cultural performances.

This vibrant celebration promises to usher in a year of prosperity and continued friendship between the two nations.
