The Philippines will be the guest of honor at the world’s largest book fair in Frankfurt this October. This presence will allow the country to shine. Over 400 delegates from the Philippines will showcase the country’s rich literary and artistic talent. The event, running from October 15th to 19th, 2025, promises a vibrant show of Filipino culture.
The 2,000-square-meter Philippine Pavilion, themed “The Imagination Peoples the Air,” will be an immersive experience. It’s designed to highlight Filipino creativity and resourcefulness. Visitors can explore 500 Philippine book titles. The space will feature modular seating and translucent walls displaying artwork by renowned Filipino artists.
The Philippines will host over 100 talks, readings, and performances. These events will tackle important global issues from a Filipino perspective. Topics include human rights, climate change, and democracy. Many discussions will end with performances that show the themes. For example, a climate change panel will conclude with a performance of Ryan Cayabyab’s “Paraiso.”

A significant highlight celebrates the works of José Rizal. His connection to Germany, particularly Heidelberg, will be highlighted in the exhibit. This celebrates Rizal’s legacy, who studied in Germany. This will further cement the Philippines’ rich literary history.
The Philippines extends its presence beyond the main pavilion. It will also have a Philippine Stand, an Asia Stage, and a Comics Stand. The Philippine Stand will serve as hub business and rights negotiations. The Asia Stage will host B2B talks on the Southeast Asian market.
The Philippines’s participation as guest of honor includes a broad cultural program across Germany. There will be exhibits, film screenings, and concerts. The events will focus on Filipino art, history, and Rizal’s time in Heidelberg.

The Philippines views its role as guest of honor as a chance to boost its creative economy. Valued at PhP 1.94 trillion, it accounts for 7.3 percent of the Philippine GDP. The National Book Development Board’s Translation Subsidy Program has already supported the translation of 173 titles. This initiative is opening doors for Filipino literature globally.
Senator Loren Legarda championed the Philippines’s bid to be guest of honor. Her vision is now a reality. The National Book Development Board and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts are executing the project.
This is a historic opportunity for the Philippines to showcase its vibrant literary scene. The book fair promises to be a celebration of Filipino stories and artistry.
