October Celebrates Museums and Galleries Month with Focus on Resilience

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) gears up to commemorate Museums and Galleries Month (MGM) this October. This annual celebration, mandated by Presidential Proclamation No. 798, aims to foster national awareness and pride in Filipino culture. It also promotes hope for the nation’s future.

MGM 2025’s theme is “Resilient Museums and Galleries: Educating for Preparedness and Recovery.” This theme highlights the vital role of museums and galleries. It emphasizes their role in preparing for and responding to unexpected crises. These crises include natural disasters, health emergencies, and social unrest.

The celebration will officially begin on October 7 at the Museo Kordilyera of the University of the Philippines Baguio. The kick-off ceremony starts at 9:00 a.m. The opening day will feature an art fair and workshops. A recognition ceremony is also part of the event.

The City of Muntinlupa will host an early launch on September 24. The event will take place at the Museo ng Muntinlupa. This museum is the city’s historical and cultural center. It was established in 2019. It is dedicated to conserving Muntinlupa’s rich heritage. The museum achieves this through research, exhibitions, and public programs.

Throughout October, both private and public museums nationwide will participate. Institutions across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will host events. These events will showcase the enduring value of museums and galleries. The goal is to reach students and communities nationwide. The events will highlight the importance of resilience in preserving cultural heritage.

The NCCA will launch the MGM 2025 Microsite Calendar on October 2. The calendar will offer a comprehensive list of activities. It will list activities happening across the country. This will help the public easily find and join the festivities.

The month-long celebration will conclude on October 25. The closing event will be held at the Museo ng Muntinlupa. Participants and partners will gather to reflect on the month’s activities.
