Quezon City, Philippines – At a Pandesal Forum with Atty. Victor “Vic” D. Rodriguez and moderator Mr. Wilson Lee Flores, current political issues in the Philippines were discussed. Atty. Rodriguez addressed pressing issues. He also promoted his book, “Kingmaker, The Hard Copy.” The book delves into his time as the Executive Secretary of Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.

He emphasized the need for a balanced government in the Philippines to prevent a shift to a parliamentary system. Atty. Rodriguez highlighted the importance of an effective opposition in the Senate to champion the Filipino people.
Regarding his potential candidacy, Atty. Rodriguez stated that he is undecided, with a 50/50 chance of running. He expressed his willingness to run only if he saw no one fit to be an effective opposition.
If he decides not to run, Atty. Rodriguez’s eyes are on his friend Rep. Dante Macroleta for the Senate if he files for the candidacy. He also commended Mayor Benjie Magdalo for exposing corrupt practices in the political system. He believes it’s too early to determine the ideal candidates. The filing deadline for the midterm election is October 8.
Additionally, Atty. Rodriguez cautioned the public. He urged them not to be swayed by politicians offering financial aid. These funds belong to the people, he emphasized. He stressed that Filipino voters must know the origin of such aid. It comes from taxpayers’ pockets. It should be directed to the working class and taxpayers who need it most.
Highlighting the prevalence of corruption in the Philippines, Atty. Rodriguez warned that the country’s debt will reach ₱15.6 trillion if corruption is not addressed. He acknowledged the significant contribution of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to the country’s ($33 million) revenue. Still, he lamented that many hardworking Filipinos struggle to provide for their families. Meanwhile, the country’s debts stay high. He also emphasized that the taxes should fund proper government projects. This includes the 5,500 flood control programs. These programs mostly went into their pockets. Atty. Rodriguez quotes, “They do not say the Philippines will be flood-free by 2028. Instead, it will be Taylor Swift ready in 2028.”
In conclusion, Atty. Rodriguez emphasized the urgent need to tackle corruption, stating that it is the primary obstacle to the country’s progress. He urged the public to vote for candidates with no criminal or corruption records. These candidates genuinely serve the Filipino people. This will bring about positive change.
