UP Manila Chorale Honors National Music Artists at Metropolitan Theater

The University of the Philippines Manila Chorale will stage a tribute concert on March 29, 2026. The event is titled Tanglaw: Pamana ng Himig. It is held at the historic Metropolitan Theater. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts co‑produces the concert. National Artist for Music Dr. Ramon P. Santos will join the chorale as a special collaborator.

The program celebrates the works of the country’s National Artists for Music. It aims to highlight their lasting impact on Filipino culture. The concert’s theme uses light as a metaphor for creation. It shows how music carries and reshapes heritage.

The repertoire includes pieces such as “Dinggin Mo. O Yahweh,” “Kaslonon,” and “Tuksuban” by Ramon Santos. It also features “Digdiwi,” “Ay Kalisud,” and “Kaming Magmamani” arranged by Antonio Buenaventura. Other works are “Purihin si Yahweh” by Lucrecia Kasilag, “Umawit Kang Masaya” by Lucio San Pedro, and “Ang Pagpapala” by Francisco Feliciano. The list continues with songs by Ryan Cayabyab, Leopoldo Silos, Ernani Cuenco, Levi Celerio, Nicanor Abelardo, and Felipe de Leon, each presented with fresh arrangements.

The concert underscores the relevance of these composers to today’s music scene. It also reinforces the importance of preserving the nation’s musical legacy. Tickets are available through the UP Manila ticket office and online platforms.

The performance reflects the chorale’s ongoing commitment to Filipino heritage, a mission first sparked during the 2025 Buwan ng Wika celebration.
