Marikina City joins Metro Manila’s growing movement towards healthier living and environmental care. Every Sunday, Marikina shuts down its streets, creating a car-free zone. It’s a chance to reclaim public spaces for pedestrians and cyclists.

This initiative isn’t just about leisure. A walkable and cycleable city is better for everyone. It boosts the local economy, improves public safety, promotes good health, and helps save the environment.

The Happy Pedal Project, a Marikina-based cycling group, is a key advocate to promote the Car-Free Sunday. They recently organized a spectacular community ride.

On March 2nd, 2025, at 7:30 AM, cyclists set off. Their journey began at Quezon City’s Thomas Morato Car-Free Sunday. The route ended at Marikina City’s Car-Free Sunday launched at Gil Fernando Avenue.

Happy Pedal wasn’t alone. They joined forces with other cycling groups. Mobile In Mnl, Oh Yeah Cycling Club, Pink O’Six, Solar Commuter Club, Esguerra Cycling Community, Manila Commuter, and Con Yo’B all participated. It was a massive show of support for a healthier city.
