Move Towards Greener Roads With LEVs

On February 27, 2026, Quezon City held a two‑part panel called “Life With LEVs: Powering the Future of Low‑Carbon Mobility.” The event took place at Harold’s Hotel on Timog Avenue, Diliman. It was organized by 350 Pilipinas with media partner The Trip Chainist.

The forum examined Light Electric Vehicles, or LEVs. Topics covered pedal‑assist bicycles, e‑scooters and e‑trikes. Speakers discussed how LEVs reshape commuting, livelihoods and last‑mile delivery. They also explored ways to pair renewable energy with LEV infrastructure.

Jheny Dabu, a Sustainable Transport Campaigner, said, “The urgent need to decarbonize our transport systems must translate into concrete, people‑centered programs that highlight their benefits to the public and to the climate.” She added, “For us, this emphasizes the continuous alignment of national regulations with local government initiatives, strengthening support for small retailers, and ensuring that the transition to electric mobility remains inclusive and just.” Dabu said, “We hope that spaces like this continue to exist to examine both the opportunities and the policy gaps in accelerating low‑carbon mobility in the light of the rise of electric mobility.”

Fread De Mesa, National Coordinator of 350 Pilipinas, said, “The transport sector remains one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the Philippines, yet we also see solutions already working.” He continued, “The question now is how we can work together to ensure that these technologies serve both the people and the planet.” De Mesa said, “Translating climate action into real change requires transforming transport systems toward sustainability, promoting cleaner air, and moving away from dependence on fossil fuels.”

Attendees included commuters, delivery riders, LEV retailers, civil‑society groups and officials from the DOTr, LTO, DENR, DOST, MMDA and DOE. Local government representatives from Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Marikina and San Juan also took part.

The event ended with a creative art piece displaying diverse transport modes. Participants were invited to sign a commitment toward zero‑emission transport. The pledge calls for renewable‑powered, equitable mobility across the Philippines.
