The Philippines is under a constant downpour. This has been going on for two weeks. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) closely monitors weather patterns.

Two Low Pressure Areas (LPAs) were under observation. This started at 8:00 AM today, July 22, 2025. One LPA had a high chance of becoming a Tropical Depression.
The continuous rain has caused severe flooding. The La Mesa Dam has overflowed. This threatens low-lying areas. Manila City is already experiencing floods.

Commuters and pedestrians are struggling. They are trying to get to their destinations. Children are making the most of the situation. They are playing in the flooded streets. They have turned them into their personal playground.
As of 2:00 PM, the LPA east of Aurora intensified. It became a Tropical Depression. PAGASA named it Tropical Depression “Dante.”
PAGASA’s official statement confirmed the development. “At 2:00 PM today, the Low Pressure Area east of Aurora developed into Tropical Depression #DantePH. Tropical Cyclone Bulletins will be issued beginning at 5:00 PM today.”
Earlier, at 8:00 AM, PAGASA reported on three LPAs. One LPA (07g) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) had a “HIGH” potential. It could become a tropical depression within 24 hours.
Another LPA (07h), also within PAR, had a “MEDIUM” potential. A third LPA (07i) outside PAR also had a “MEDIUM” potential.
PAGASA advises the public to stay informed. They should monitor updates from DOST-PAGASA regularly. This is to ensure safety during this period of inclement weather. The next update of PAGASA will be released at 5:00 PM today.
