The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT)T strengthens the country’s position as a premier health tourism destination in Asia-Pacific. It achieves this with the launch of the International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress (IHWTC) on Monday. The inaugural event took place at the Grand Hyatt Manila. Delegates from around the world came together. They explored the country’s unique approach to wellness. They also considered its potential as a global health tourism hub.
The congress had the theme “Aruga: A Filipino-Inspired Gathering for Global Health and Wellness.” It showcased the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage. It also highlighted traditional healing practices. Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco emphasized the country’s commitment to providing exceptional healthcare and wellness experiences. She highlighted the Filipino values of care and compassion.
The Philippines’ hosting of the International Health and Wellness Congress is centered on the theme ‘Aruga.’ ‘Aruga’ is a Filipino word that means ‘to care for’ or ‘to nurture.'” Secretary Frasco said these words during the opening ceremony. “This reflects our age-old values of malasakit or pag-atiman, which is the cornerstone of our traditional wellness practices.”
The congress featured a diverse program, including country presentations, panel discussions, business-to-business networking sessions, and an exhibition area. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the Philippines’ world-class medical facilities, wellness retreats, and natural healing resources.
