
Isabela province celebrated its vibrant Bambanti Festival, or Scarecrow Festival, from January 21 to 25, 2025. The festival showcased the region’s rich agricultural heritage. It attracted a significant international audience. The festival celebrates the scarecrow as a guardian of crops. It is also a symbol of abundant harvests. The event drew thousands of Isabeleños. It attracted tourists and a delegation of 24 international diplomats. This marked a historic event for the province.
The festival kicked off with the Makan ken Mainum (Food and Drinks) competition. It was a dazzling display of culinary artistry. Participants from 22 municipalities and cities showcased their talent. Each team, uniquely incorporating at least one member of the LGBTQ+ community, showcased the exceptional skills of Isabeleño cooks. The aroma and visual appeal alone left the audience captivated.
Twenty-one ambassadors attended the festival. Two Chargés d’ Affaires and one Deputy Chief of Mission were also there. Their unprecedented presence underscored the festival’s growing international significance. New Zealand Ambassador, Her Excellency Catherine McIntosh, highlighted the importance of agribusiness to both Isabela and New Zealand. She stated, “Agribusiness is as important here as it is in New Zealand.” This emphasizes the shared economic foundation. This visit marked her first to Northern Philippines since assuming her post in May 2024. The visit also had Atty. Paul Angelo Uy present Isabela’s Tourism and Investment Plan. He is the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer. The aim was to attract foreign investment and boost tourism.
Vice Governor Faustino “Bojie” Dy III expressed his gratitude to the international delegates. He stated, “Your presence amplifies the significance of the 2025 Bambanti Festival. It marks a strong bond of friendship and partnership.”
The festival’s heart beat with the rhythm of the Bambanti Street Dance competition. Thirteen contingents, dressed as scarecrows, parading at the capitol, paying tribute to the province’s hardworking farmers. The Municipality of Jones secured a back-to-back championship win in Category A. They impressed judges with their clean performance. Their impressive formations and stunning costume changes also gained admiration. Luna maintained their dominance in Category B’s Festival Dance Showdown, captivating audiences with their energetic performances and music choice.

The City of Ilagan won the overall title at the Bambanti Festival 2025. They will receive ₱1 million worth of projects for their outstanding achievements. These achievements were across multiple categories. Luna was named first runner-up. They will receive ₱750,000 in projects. Cauayan City secured second runner-up and will get ₱500,000. Alicia claimed third runner-up, earning ₱300,000. Echague finished fourth with ₱100,000.



The festival concluded with a grand concert featuring popular Filipino artists Ely Buendia, Bea Alonzo, and Moonstar88. This event brought a vibrant close to a successful and internationally acclaimed event. The 2025 Bambanti Festival showcased Isabela’s rich cultural heritage. It also highlighted its growing international influence. The festival presented a potential for economic growth.
