Taal Volcano spewed volcanic smog, or “vog”, on Sunday. This prompted authorities to raise the alert level to 1 at around 11:00 AM. As a precaution, authorities have suspended face-to-face classes in some areas of Batangas today. This measure is due to the ongoing volcanic activity.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported continuous degassing at the volcano. This degassing results in hazy conditions in nearby communities. The agency advised residents to wear protective masks to reduce exposure to volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas.
PHIVOLCS continues to closely watch Taal Volcano’s activity and will give updates as necessary.
