The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) collaborated with the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA). They also worked with the Project Inclusion Network (PIN). They hosted the 1st Philippine Disability Convention and Expo 2024 on Monday (July 15). The event took place at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. It was part of this year’s National Disability Rights Week.

Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay Villar of the DSWD emphasized the importance of accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The event served as a strong public advocacy platform. It raised awareness about the challenges, needs, and untapped potential of the disability sector.

Glenda Relova, Executive Director of the NCDA, stressed the importance of inclusion. Pasay City Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano echoed the call for giving priority to PWDs. This includes providing employment opportunities in both private and government sectors.

The convention and expo showcased a diverse range of products and services designed to empower people with disabilities. Exhibitors included government and advocacy organizations, providers of aids and equipment, and financial and legal services. They also featured education, training, and employment providers. Additionally, there were social and leisure options, transport and vehicle services, and health and medical products and services. Allied health professionals and support services were also available.
