Women Cyclists Own EDSA

A road infrastructure designed for female cyclists means it’s safe for the public. Today, more than 40 cyclists joined a bicycle ride from Quezon City Hall to Tambay Cycling Hub in Pasig City. They ride through EDSA and take a U-turn at the Magallanes Exchange in Makati City.

The female cyclists will ride through EDSA to demonstrate the efficiency of bike commuting. The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) joined in the ride. MMDA Gen. Nicolas Delosa Torre III will ride with them as well.

The Move As One coalition organized this ride with Bicycle Friendly, Solar Commuter Club, and Tambay Cycling Hub to show the conditions of cycling on EDSA. The different government agencies ride with them to experience the 22.53km route as they battle through the morning traffic.

The real challenge on this bicycle ride is the motorists’ behavior towards female commuters. Including the varying road conditions that these cyclists face. This women’s month they experience what it is like to ride EDSA every day.
