Over 100 golfers hit the greens at the Orchard Golf and Country Club on September 30, 2025. They competed in the 2025 UP Law Malcolm Cup, hosted by the UP Law Class of 2000.
The event drew alumni from the 1970s up to the 2020s. Team 90s claimed victory in the team competition. They won by just two strokes over Team 80s. Team 80s finished as First Runner-Up.
Sikini Labastilla, Gerry Erguiza, and Alvin Geli posted top net scores of 72. Eight players counted toward Team 90s’ total. Zardi Abellera, Rod Rosas, and Macky Hernandez shot 73. Kiko Rivera and Arnel Casanova added 74s. Their combined score was 583.
David Holden took home Low Net Champion honors. He shot a three-under 69. Leo Batoon won Low Gross Champion with an even-par 72.
Frank Figura, from UP Law 1978, won Class A with a 69 net score. Mike Mendoza followed as First Runner-Up with 70. In Class B, Deo Cristobal won with 70. Bernard Afable got 71 for First Runner-Up. Pete Cura won Class C with 73. Florito Bernardo was First Runner-Up with 75.
More than twenty women competed. Daisy Tantio and Ashley Eumague both shot 74. Tantio won on countback. Eumague placed First Runner-Up. Atty. Monica Lee finished Third with a 76.
The tournament was part of UP Law 2000’s Silver Jubilee. Tournament Director Donemark Calimon thanked the sponsors. He praised the Class of 2000 members for their support.
UP Law 2000 President Dan Calica announced two completed projects. These include the Y2K Damayan Fund. It raised P2.2 million for non-academic staff. The Malcolm Cup was their second major event.
Calica invited alumni to the Grand Alumni Homecoming. It will be held on November 14, 2025. The event takes place at Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila.
Associate Dean Paolo Tamase delivered a message. He urged alumni to serve the nation. He encouraged them to shape national discourse.
Major sponsors included Aboitiz Power and Abellera and Calica Law Offices. Pi Sigma Fraternity, Smart Sports, and Pag-IBIG Fund also supported. Other sponsors were Megatesting Center, Subic International Golf Club, and K & G Golf Apparel.
CebCar Electric Vehicles, EVFMX, 3Strokes, and K & G were Hole-in-One sponsors. Many law offices and individuals also contributed.
The day celebrated camaraderie, competition, and legacy. It showed the enduring spirit of UP Law alumni.
