Property giant Megaworld is accelerating its hospitality expansion. The company aims to reach nearly 12,000 hotel rooms by 2032.
Megaworld will build new properties in key tourism areas like Palawan and Ilocos Norte. The rollout also includes expansions in major business and tourism hubs across the Philippines. The company will feature both homegrown hotel brands and international names. This strategy solidifies Megaworld’s position as the country’s largest hotel developer and operator.
To support this growth, Megaworld created Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts (MGHR). The new umbrella organization divides the hotel portfolio into two groups.
The first group is Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR). MHR will manage properties in Metro Manila, Boracay, Batangas, and Cebu.
The second group is Megaworld Global Hospitality (MGH). MGH will handle the Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside, new properties in Palawan, and three hotels in Iloilo. The Iloilo hotels include Courtyard by Marriott, Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, and Belmont Hotel Iloilo.
“One of our biggest contributions to nation-building is to help make our tourism industry more vibrant and attractive, especially to foreign visitors,” says Megaworld President and CEO Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso. “To support this goal of helping boost our country’s tourism, we are making this bold move of expanding our hospitality organization with established veterans and innovators in the global hotels and leisure industry.”
“We see tourism as one of the most powerful engines of sustainable economic growth,” adds Kevin L. Tan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI), the parent company of Megaworld. “Every hotel we build creates jobs, supports local businesses, brings visitors to new destinations, and opens more opportunities for communities to prosper. Through our expanding hospitality portfolio under Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts (MGHR), we want to help continue unlocking the immense tourism potential of the Philippines and bring more of our country’s destinations, culture, and world-class Filipino hospitality to travelers from around the globe.”
Two industry veterans will lead the new groups. Socrates Alvaro is the Managing Director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts. Anna Vergara serves as the Managing Director of Megaworld Global Hospitality.
Alvaro brings nearly two decades of leadership experience. His career spans the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, the Maldives, Thailand, and other Asian markets.
Vergara brings more than 32 years of experience with Marriott International. She has a strong reputation in hotel operations and team development.
Alvaro and Vergara combine homegrown expertise with international brand management standards.
Megaworld’s hospitality business is growing rapidly. In the first half of 2026, it became the company’s fastest-growing recurring income segment. Revenues increased by 11 percent to P3.1 billion.
The strong financial performance was driven by the opening of Belmont Hotel Iloilo. The 405-room hotel is the third property in the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park. It is now the largest hotel in Iloilo City by room inventory. This addition brings Megaworld’s total hotel portfolio in Iloilo City to nearly 1,000 rooms.
