Airport Hotel Plants Seeds of Heritage in Pasay Schools

On June 3, 2026, the hotel’s leadership and team visited the Unang Paaralang Bayan ng Pasay and the Philippine School for the Deaf to plant Sampaguita seedlings, marking a significant effort to revive the presence of the fragrant blossom within the local community.

As part of its commitment to environmental stewardship and cultural preservation, Savoy Hotel Manila recently expanded its “Plant a Sampaguita” advocacy, bringing the country’s national flower to two of Pasay City’s most historic learning institutions.

The “Plant a Sampaguita” initiative serves as a core component of the MEGreen Program, an umbrella sustainability drive by Megaworld Hotels & Resorts that focuses on community development and environmental care. By integrating the national flower into the grounds of these century-old institutions, Savoy Hotel Manila aims to foster a deeper connection between students and the symbols that define Filipino identity.

At the Unang Paaralang Bayan ng Pasay, Principal Errol Ruiz welcomed the hotel team and provided an elevated plant box for the seedlings. The visit also highlighted the school’s vital role as an Alternative Learning System (ALS) community center, which provides life-changing education to underprivileged residents.

The initiative continued at the Philippine School for the Deaf, a historic institution established in 1907. With the support of Principal Jordan Madronio, the hotel installed a new plant box on the school’s grounds, ensuring that the Sampaguita—a symbol of love, honor, and healing—remains a visible part of the students’ environment.

Den Navarro, General Manager of Savoy Hotel Manila, emphasized that the hotel’s mission extends well beyond its guest rooms. “We believe that hospitality extends beyond our hotel walls,” Navarro stated. “Just as we care for our guests, we also have a responsibility to care for our communities, our environment, and the heritage that defines us as Filipinos.”

The advocacy also received a nod from local leadership. The Savoy Hotel team paid a courtesy visit to Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, a noted proponent of green tourism, to discuss the initiative and the ongoing efforts to propagate the Sampaguita throughout the city.

As Savoy Hotel Manila continues its tenure as a leader in sustainable hospitality. They recently earning a nomination for the Philippines’ Leading Airport Hotel at the 2026 World Travel Awards—it remains dedicated to projects that cultivate pride in the Filipino heritage. Through these small but symbolic plantings, the hotel hopes to inspire a new generation to protect the cultural landscape of the nation.
