The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) honored four National Artists. These artists reached their centennial year in 2024. The tribute included the unveiling of commemorative stamps. The ceremony took place on December 18th at the historic Metropolitan Theatre. NCCA Chairman Victorino Mapa Manalo attended the ceremony. Postmaster General Luis Carlos was also present. The families and friends of the honored artists attended as well.

The “Birth Commemoration Year Stamps” celebrate the lives and legacies of: J. Elizalde Navarro. He is the National Artist on Visual Arts and was born on May 22, 1924. Eddie Romero is the National Artist on Film and Broadcast Arts and was born on July 7, 1924. Alexandria Roces is the National Artist on Literature and was born on July 13, 1924; and F. Sionil Jose (National Artist on Literature, born December 3, 1924). Each stamp features a portrait and a brief description highlighting their significant contributions to Philippine arts and culture.
This is more than just a stamp. It is a testament to the enduring impact these National Artists have had on our nation’s artistic landscape. Chairman Manalo stated this. Postmaster General Carlos echoed this sentiment, emphasizing PhilPost’s commitment to commemorating significant figures in Philippine history through its philatelic program.
The commemorative stamps are now available for purchase at PhilPost branches nationwide. They offer a tangible way for Filipinos to honor these cultural icons. They also provide an opportunity to share their stories with future generations. The occasion highlighted the rich artistic heritage of the Philippines. It also underscored the enduring legacy of its National Artists.
