In the 15th episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) will reveal its programs. These programs are transformative. This episode airs on Tuesday, September 3. These programs aim to further empower Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). These initiatives are in recognition of OFWs’ significant contributions to the country’s overall economic development.

Leading the media forum are DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Arnaldo Arnell A. Ignacio, along with NCR Regional Director Emver Cortez as host. They will discuss the agency’s comprehensive approach to addressing the welfare needs of OFWs both domestically and internationally.

The government’s primary goal is to inform and support OFWs and their families throughout their journey. Through the DMW, the department aims to empower OFWs and their families. They strive to help them fulfill their potential as partners in national development.

The DMW will focus on specific programs. These include training, education, financial assistance, marketing support, and social protection initiatives. These are designed to give OFWs and their families with a stable future.

Additionally, the department will give an overview of the AKSYON Fund. It will cover other legal, medical, and financial aid offered to distressed OFWs. This is done in collaboration with stakeholders like the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and OWWA.

The media forum will tackle crucial topics. These include the One Repatriation Command Center (ORCC) Livelihood Development Assistance Program (LDAP). It will also cover the National Reintegration Program. These initiatives show the DMW’s unwavering commitment to protecting OFWs under the Bagong Pilipinas brand of governance.

This effort supports the national government’s ongoing focus on ethical recruitment. It also promotes fair employment and ensures the safe and orderly migration of OFWs.

As a reminder, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s 3rd State of the Nation Address in July 2024 highlighted concrete projects for OFW welfare. These projects include extra facilities like the OFW Lounge in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). They also include the Seafarer’s Hub in Manila. There is also livelihood aid for returning OFWs. Additionally, there is assistance for those affected by unrest and calamities in various countries.
