The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) hosted a dissemination forum on 19 December 2024. It took place at the Swiss-Belhotel Blulane. The event marked 30 years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA). The forum, titled “BPfA+30: Bridging Progress Towards Gender Equality and Sustainable Development,” highlighted significant achievements. It also presented ongoing challenges in advancing gender equality in the Philippines.

The panelists included government officials, civil society representatives, and experts. They presented a comprehensive National Progress Report. The report detailed progress made since the adoption of the BPfA. The report highlighted significant strides in areas such as women’s political participation, access to education and healthcare, and economic empowerment. Specific successes discussed included increased representation of women in government. They also talked about improved access to reproductive health services. Another focus was on advancements in combating gender-based violence.

However, the forum also acknowledged persistent obstacles hindering full gender equality. Discussions focused on the ongoing need to address issues. These included the gender pay gap, unequal access to opportunities in certain sectors, and the pervasive nature of gender-based violence. Panelists emphasized the need for continued commitment from all stakeholders. This includes government, civil society, and the private sector. Such commitment is vital to fully realize the goals of the BPfA.

The forum served as a crucial space for dialogue and collaboration. It emphasized the need for a long-term national effort. Such effort is necessary to ensure a more equitable and inclusive future for all Filipinos. The PCW pledged continued dedication to monitoring progress and advocating for policies that promote gender equality and sustainable development. The event concluded with a call to action. It urged all Filipinos to participate in building a society free from gender discrimination. Everyone should aim for a society free from inequality.
