Viking Cruises and the Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA) launched a new scholarship program on May 7. The initiative creates a direct career path for Filipinos in the global cruise industry.
The two organizations signed the agreement at MIHCA’s Illumine Restaurant in Manila. The program offers training in culinary arts, food and beverage service, and housekeeping. Graduates who meet industry standards can gain potential employment with Viking Cruises.
Stewart Coote is the Viking Cruises vice president for crew operations. He said the project supports both current crew families and new applicants.
“We are creating pathways of opportunity for the families of existing Viking crew members and for aspiring individuals who may not otherwise have the financial resources to pursue careers in hospitality or maritime service,” Coote said.
He noted the impact of the collaboration. “These partnerships are more than training programs. They are gateways to long-term careers, economic opportunity, and brighter futures. With MIHCA and our global training partners helping develop exceptional talent, and Viking providing meaningful career opportunities, we hope to help the next generation turn potential into possibility,” Coote added.
MIHCA President Chef Paolo Santino C. Guevara said the partnership reflects a commitment to student development. He noted that the project helps Filipino talent reach the international cruise market.
Students must meet specific requirements to qualify for deployment. These include English proficiency, relevant experience, and physical readiness.
The program aims to bridge the gap between education and global employment. It ensures that Filipino hospitality training meets international standards.
