Aero Dili Launches New Darwin-Dili Flight

Aero Dili has launched a new direct flight service between Dili, Timor-Leste, and Darwin, Australia. The route began on June 21, 2026. It marks a significant expansion for Timor-Leste’s aviation network.

The service operates twice a week. Flights depart on Sundays and Tuesdays. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Aero Dili joins Qantas and Air North on this route. Travelers now have access to 12 direct flights between Timor-Leste and Australia every week. The service aims to assist leisure travelers, business professionals, and diaspora communities.

Timor-Leste officials believe the route will boost the local tourism industry. It offers new opportunities for accommodation providers, tour operators, and local communities.

Antonio da Silva is the Director General of Tourism.

“We congratulate Aero Dili on this milestone,” said da Silva. “This new direct Darwin–Dili service is an important step forward for Timor-Leste’s tourism sector.”

He noted the importance of the Australian market.

“Australia remains a priority market for Timor-Leste tourism, with the Northern Territory offering a natural gateway for short-break, adventure, diving, cultural, and business travel,” da Silva added.

Aero Dili serves as the national carrier of Timor-Leste. The airline is based at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport. Established in 2018, the company uses a fleet of Airbus aircraft.

Darwin is the airline’s first destination in Australia. The company also flies to Bali, Singapore, Malaysia, and China. Aero Dili plans to launch a new service to Melbourne in November 2026.

Timor-Leste is gaining popularity as a travel destination. Several publications named it one of the top 20 countries to visit in 2026. The nation is known for its blend of Timorese culture and Portuguese heritage.

Visitors often travel there for the pristine beaches and coral reefs. The country also features rugged mountain landscapes and traditional villages.
