Science happens outside the laboratory. Mikee Chua proves this every day. She is a University of the Philippines alumna and a health technology founder.
Chua worked in a public hospital early in her career. She saw big operational gaps for care teams. These gaps inspired her to take action.
She co-founded CP Health Innovations in 2019. The company developed the CareGo Health Suite. This platform streamlines clinic operations. It gives healthcare providers more time for patient care. The company now works with local governments and healthcare units.
Chua graduated from the UPD College of Science National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. She spent her early career working inside laboratories. She never imagined she would lead a tech startup.
“I remember when we had to do our business planning [for an undergraduate project] and prepare for pitches—those were really stressful times. Looking back, I didn’t realize then that I’d be going down this path. I think that was also when my interest in building a venture started,” Chua said.
She believes anyone can become a founder.
Chua spoke at a recent webinar on April 22, 2026. The event was titled “Innovation Impact Stories: A Webinar Series on the Societal Impacts of Science Innovation.” The UPD-CS Innovation Program hosted the event.
During the webinar, Chua explained how scientific thinking creates systems-level solutions.
The Innovation Impact Stories series explores real-world uses of science and technology. It highlights research-driven innovations across many fields. The initiative aims to inspire students, researchers, and faculty members. It encourages a culture of purposeful innovation that connects academic theory with practical results.
